Gongfu tea tasting cups is used during Gongfu tea sessions to evenly distribute each brew of tea. After the tea is poured from the gaiwan into the tea pitcher, it is then poured into the tasting cups for everyone to enjoy. Tasting cups can be categorized into host cups and guest cups.
The main difference between the host cup and the guest cups is their size and use. The host cup, used usually by the host serve the tea, is larger to showcase the host's taste and status. Guest cups are smaller and meant for the guests. Even though the sizes are different, the tea is still shared evenly. The host cup reflects the host's unique taste. A Gongfu tea set normally includes one host cup and several guest cups.
